Abstract
It is suggested that sublingual nitroglycerine can improve the ability of T1-201 for detection of viable myocardium. Methods and Results: In a randomized, double blind study, 50 patients who had fixed defects on stress-redistribution scan, were randomized into two groups. In group I, patients received 0.4-0.8 mg sublingual nitroglycerine, before T1-201 reinjection. In group II, reinjection of T1-201 was performed, without any previous intervention. In group I, 11 (44%) of the patients showed improved reversibility after T1-201 reinjection compared with 9 (36%) of group II patients (P=0.56). Moreover, 6 of all patients showed reverse redistribution. This pattern was observed in 4 (16%) of the patients in group I and 2 (8%) of group II patients (P=0.38). Conclusion: Nitroglycerine has no significant effect on detection of reversible myocardium by T1-201 SPECT. Occasionally, T1-201 reinjection causes reverse redistribution, but nitroglycerine has no effect on it.
